This past week, it became evident that many of the Nation’s carriers are starting to throttle back bandwidth to mobile 3G Users. This week, AT&T announced that it was killing the $30 unlimited data plan. Instead, AT&T will be replacing it with a plan that offers either 2 Gigabytes of data per month, or 200 Megabytes per month. AT&T’s network has received the highest volume of complaints in congested cities, with regards to its data capacity and data speeds. Many users of the network are on iPhone’s or other PDA devices that are constantly checking email, surfing the web, streaming video, etc. Other carriers like Verizon and Sprint already have 5 Gigabyte monthly bandwidth limits on their 3G networks...

It appears as though many vendors are partnering up in this new realm of cloud computing; as opposed to simply “going alone”. The following is a comprehensive list of vendors who are partnering up in the “new frontier”. An interesting note here is to see how VMWare seems to be one of the largest partners amongst all of the other vendors.Google & VMWareMicrosoft & HPCisco, EMC & VMWareCisco, VMWare & NetAppSalesforce.com & VMWareMicrosoft & NetAppEMC & Various providers like AT&T, Peer1, Unisys and othersCA & NetAppDell, Joyent and othersCA & Cisco

For those of you who enjoy seeing a graph, here you go:

What is Cloud Computing – Take Two PDF Print E-mail

In our first article, “cloud computing – a quick overview”, we outlined the basic premise and idea of what cloud computing really is, as well as how it operates. Well, I am writing again to clarify some more information, as well as to provide a “laymen’s term” in the understanding cloud computing.

Simply put: Cloud computing is offloading computing resources like processing and storage from individual terminals (like your personal desktop or laptop at work) and moving all of the processing tasks, applications and storage over to a bank of servers that operate in tandem (super computers that can process millions of calculations per second by operating together. Think of how...

4G, also known as WiMax is currently in its infancy. However, this new technology is going to proliferate the forward momentum of cloud computing. Why? Well 4G/WiMax boasts current speeds of up to 144 Mbps on the downlink, and up to 35 Mbps on the uplink. Future rollouts and upgrades to 4G/WiMax will allow the technology to easily surpass the 1Gigabit mark. This will allow us to compete with countries like Japan and Singapore who have been utilizing this technology for years.

However, there are limitations to the technology. The biggest limitation is that of the spectrum being utilized. Why? Well, WiMax operates in frequencies from 2.3 Ghz to 5.0 Ghz. These frequencies do not have the...

Green Cloud

One of the biggest concerns that have been facing the human population has been that of utilizing our resources properly. We take for granted on a daily basis the raw materials and resources that we have access to. The biggest resource that we take for granted is that of planet earth. In recent times, it has been noted that we, as a human race, need to stop polluting our environment; we need to transition over to greener materials, as well as harvest energy in a less destructive and polluting manner. So what does this all mean for cloud computing?

Well, when you hear stories about Apple building a massive “super computer” farm, for use in cloud computing, you begin to...

With all of the discussion of careers in this new facet of IT/IS, one must wonder what is being done with regards to certifications. It is no surprise that any section of IT/IS requires some formal education, or more often than not, a certification. These certifications not only provide the individual with the proper skills in managing any potential issues; but they also prove to the potential employer that the individual is capable of handling these tasks, and know what they are doing. As a result, certifications in cloud computing will become more prominent as time progresses.

Up until recently, (very recent), IBM has been the only vendor providing any form of certification in cloud...

What can “Cloud” do for you? PDF Print E-mail

With the current discussion of cloud computing, one must ask how this will affect the current conditions of the Information Technology/Information Services industries. This new technology will not only change current standards in Information Technology and Information Systems, but it will inevitably change the job market associated with Information Technology and Information Systems. As it stands, many businesses and organizations utilize a large and exhaustive IT department, with a composition of various groups that manage various components of the network. With cloud computing, many of these groups will no longer be needed as there will be less “in-house” IT related tasks. Many of...
